Death Touch is Now Available!

You've been patient and now the wait is over! The fourth book in the Lords of Shifters series is now available.

Aubrey is a witch with no magic. She helplessly watches as the town hangs her mother to death and wishes she could save her with a spell. But before her mother dies, she curses Aubrey to live as a human and warns her to stay away from dragons.

With nothing to live for and no love in her life, Aubrey falls into a depression. When a boy with golden eyes shows up at her door, he may be exactly what she needs and everything her mother warned against. Will he ever be able to thaw Aubrey’s heart?

Now that Lora has made it to Takoda and vowed to destroy Lord Xifan and the Hornbroods, she discovers that everyone she cares for has lied to her. Aubrey has disappeared, Lora’s best friend is actually her brother and her other best friend is a giant spider, and the barn is full of suffering. That’s not even the worst of it. If she destroys the barn, it may kill everyone she loves. Is Lora able to do the right thing with such a high cost?

As you probably know, Loramendi's Story was altered and re-released in 2015. If you read Loramendi's Story prior to 2015, please be sure to take a look at the letter I wrote to you in the front of Death Touch.

I'm so excited to bring you this story and hope you enjoy it! I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Death Touch is now available on Amazon, BN, Apple, Kobo, and everywhere ebooks are sold.

Lords of Shifters Relaunch Announcement!

A date has been set! The time is near.

During the summer of 2008, I wrote my first novel. It was a young adult paranormal/fairy tale/urban fantasy type story. I had no idea at the time what genre to stick it under, so slashes became important. The title was The Dreaded Dawn.

Between the time of the first draft and 2011 it went under countless numbers of revisions and re-writes. It was critiqued and edited by some talented authors. It was pitched at writer's conferences and queried to hundreds of agents to no avail.

After much thought, the title was changed, I ran it through one more critique group, a cover was created, and I decided to self-publish it as a first book in a series. That book was Loramendi's Story, a Lords of Shifters Novel.

The following year the second book, Spider Wars, was born and then the third, Dark Horse, and then I got stuck. You waited and continued to buy and download the books, and for that, I'm thankful.

I had an idea of where I wanted it to go, but I didn't know how to get there. In fact, where I wanted it to go really made no sense from where it started. Because of my difficulties, I began to hate Loramendi's Story and cringed every time I thought about all of you wonderful readers waiting and counting on me to finish the series. It became a guilt that gnawed at me day and night until finally I pulled all three books from publication. (something a self-published author can do).

And now? It's time to give it back to you. I've combed and groomed and re-wrote some parts of Loramendi's Story so that Lords of Shifters may continue. If you've already read this book, you shouldn't have to re-read it to continue with the series. The story itself wasn't changed, just some events to move it along. I will recap those events in the fourth book for you, so you won't miss a thing.

I'm so happy to announce the re-release date of the Lords of Shifters series and the title of the fourth book.

The date is June 10, 2015 and the fourth book is titled: Death Touch, A Lords of Shifters Novel.

It's just around the corner and I'm ecstatic to share these books with you once again! Thank you so much for being loyal readers and for giving me the time needed to make this series worthy of your time!

If you'd like to receive an electronic advance reader copy of the new Loramendi's Story, please subscribe to my newsletter. You will get the information needed when the time comes.

Thank you!

Coming June 10, 2015:

Loramendi's Story, A Lords of Shifters Novel

Seventeen year old Lora has plans and knows how her future should pan out. But the future is a finicky thing and has an agenda of its own.

After high school graduation Lora wants to move far away from the ridiculous rules and restrictions of her godmother and live as a writer with her best friend in Seattle. She always felt uncomfortable in the small town she grew up in and knows that once she reaches Seattle, she’ll find her people. People who are like her, writers and artists who understand her plight.

When Lora falls for a hot new windsurfer in town, she learns his life is like a fairytale story similar to the fiction she enjoys writing. At the time he tells her that she’s a long lost princess, a shapeshifter, and in danger from an evil lord wanting to kill her, her godmother abandons her, and she’s forced to go along with the tales he’s telling and leave all she knows behind. After all, she always wanted to live around people like her, she just assumed they’d be human.

Can she embrace the life of the leader she was born to be, battle an evil lord and end lives to save a land she knows nothing about or will this story she’s living end badly?

Following the Heart and Bravery

There's been something on my mind for a long time. Well, you know that there's always something constantly running through the neurons up in my noggin, haunting, but this one thing has been persistent and comes back frequently no matter how many times I try to clamp it shut. I feel you should know. In fact, I stopped this morning's run short to come home and write to you.

Back in 2008, I was inspired to start and finish my first full-length novel. My main inspiration? To write a book I thought would sell based on what was selling in the market then. One I thought you'd be interested in, instead of a story I could put my soul into. Okay, okay, you can stop laughing now. My point in telling you that dark secret is so you can understand why I'm pulling the Lords of Shifters series.

That first book I wrote is titled Loramendi's Story, A Lords of Shifters Novel--it had several titles as it was morphed into what it is now. It's actually my best selling novel, though not in any way a best seller as far as best sellers lists are concerned. After I wrote it and moved on toward the next books in the series, I wrote them to shift into what I felt were more important themes that also entertain. Originally though, my intention was to mimic what readers were buying at the time. Loramendi's Story wasn't about anything I'd ever be interested in reading then until I was able to shift the series a bit like I did.

The second and third books (Spider Wars and Dark Horse) head more toward what I would enjoy writing and, in fact, the rest of the books will end up exactly where I would want them to be, with a message and a story I'd be interested in sharing. I'm not sure if I intentionally knew they were going that way or if it was my conscious making its way out through my fingertips subconsciously.

Since 2008, I published three other stories outside of the Lords of Shifters series. I feel good about sharing these three, Dream Smashers, Jenny's Blue Velvet, and Still Nights, with you. They may not be about subjects I'm heading toward in my writing at present, but they have important messages and/or observations that will make some think and wonder and, perhaps, inspire.

The Lords of Shifters series will be unavailable after September 7th until further notice. While I contemplate on how I can turn the series into stories I believe contribute to the world instead of taking, I'm moving forward on some other projects that have that potential.

Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your support. I will do my best to get back to the Lords of Shifters as soon as it is right, and I hope the stories will then have the ability to move you and be worthy of your time as I put more of my heart into them.

New Look for Lords of Shifters

Loramendi's Story was first published in 2011. As you know, it's the first book in the Lords of Shifters series. Spider Wars, which runs along the same timeline as Loramendi's Story, and Dark Horse came next in 2012. Since then, they have sat and you have waited and waited for the next story to fall into. I love you for your patience and have some wonderful news! The next book is currently in production and it's all coming together. I'm excited about it and hope to give you the best book yet this summer. The title will be released in July.

Until then, take a look at the new covers Steven Novak has given the Lords of Shifters series. Do you love them? I do.

Some Blog Love

It's been nearly six months since my last story came out: Dark Horse, A Lords of Shifters Novella. So, what's up with that? Why the lapse in time? I don't know.

The plan was to have Blood Pyre out by March and then the next book out this summer. That didn't work out so well, obviously.

And why haven't I been keeping up with the blog? I don't know.

A blog a week shouldn't be so bad, I suppose. But that hasn't happened in a very long while.

Life happens. Boys become teenagers in a blink of an eye. Work becomes constant. New interests develop. Trips to Hawaii happen. And everything else gets put on the back burner. Well, it's time to get back to work.

Today is my first day writing again. It's been so long that I think I forgot how. My goal was to hit 5K words today. Saturday is my only writing day, so the more words the better. Far from 5K, I reached 1,500. What happened? I don't know. But don't worry because I'm getting 'er done this time.

I'd like to take a few minutes once in a while to keep you posted on the progress of Blood Pyre and other rad stuff I feel important, like vegan cookies and running events. I appreciate your patience with me and can't wait to finally bring you the books you've been waiting for!

Until then, if you haven't already liked my Facebook page, go there now. There will be ebooks given away when the page hits 200 "Likes" Yay for FREE EBOOKS!  ----> http://Facebook.com/AngelaCarlieBooks

Here's a picture of my sweet boy and I at the coast this past weekend. It was a beautiful weekend. Look how tall he's getting!

And here is one of the pieces of music I've been listening to while writing Blood Pyre.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

LOS Update and Cloud Atlas

My last blog post related to the Lords of Shifters series stated there will be one final novel after Dark Horse. Well, that was written before Dark Horse was complete. It turns out that there may be up to three novellas left in the Lords of Shifters Series. Stay tuned for the release of Dark Horse in the next couple weeks along with the reveal of the cover for the next book in the series. (I'm so excited to share it with you!)

I went to see Cloud Atlas tonight. I was nervous because the reviews I read prior revealed that this was a confusing movie and not many understood it. One of my clients this morning told me she enjoyed it, but was completely lost. She didn't "get it." If she didn't get it, how would I?

Since I have no one to have a conversation with tonight about this film who doesn't try to crack a joke or who rips a humongous fart right in the middle of my sentence (true stories), I'll discuss it with my blog. ;)

Cloud Atlas may be the most brilliant movie I've ever watched, and I think it's up for interpretation by the viewer as to what it's about. To me, it was about so much: karma, love, compassion, pain, fear, freedom, and has three main themes.

1. Throughout the ages, no matter how distant in the future or how far in the past, human nature is the same. There's no escaping it. We have two ways of thought. There are people who believe they and their kind are entitled over others and in an "order" or "hierarchy" usually fueled by greed and selfishness or maybe just a complete lack of regard for anyone other than themselves, and there are those who believe and fight for equality or just the simple right to live. This is shown in each of the stories told in Cloud Atlas. My favorite example is the one of the future and the slaughter house of the fabricated ones. Shocking. But truly, all the stories were brilliantly woven.

2. We are all from the same source. We live for each other or are bound to each other. What you do impacts me and everybody else. It's like the lines in the movie where one character says, "You are nothing but a tiny drop in a vast ocean." And the character other states, "What is an ocean but a multitude of drops?" (In real life, this frustrates me the most. I try very hard not to get upset at people, but it's difficult when they are so full of entitlement-- so, maybe this one can be classified as number 1 also).

3. Karma. Every kindness or cruelty you do today will come back to you in the future.

But it's also about so much more than just those three themes.

In sum, I'm going to be thinking about this movie for days. It was long, but so worth it. Don't go into this movie thinking it's a mindless three hours of entertainment. It is everything but mindless. Obviously, it's not for everyone. For example, some older gentleman walked out behind us and stated that it was the worst movie he had ever seen. I wanted to turn around and say, "Really?" My husband said on the way home, "That guy must not have ever watched Water World." haha ;)

Have you watched Cloud Atlas yet? What did you think?

Introducing the next Lords of Shifters Novel - Dark Horse

Writing. It's one of the most difficult jobs I've ever had. It doesn't come easy to me like it does so many other writers. You know, the awesome authors who can put out several books a year. Difficulty is one reason I love it so much. It's a challenge. Sometimes a downright battle, but it's so worth it. The satisfaction of creating a story that touches a heart or makes someone think or entertains for a short while makes all that hard work seem like no big deal.

That said, I'd like to introduce you to my new work in progress. I'm giving you the title, the lead characters, the blurb, and the cover (created by my favorite cover artist, Robin Ludwig Design). You'll have to wait until late summer / early fall for the book.

Say hello to Amethea and Cerus.

Dark Horse - A Lords of Shifters Novel
by Angela Carlie

Amethea thought she was the last of her kind, a creature from mythical stories, from light, peace, and magic. But, Amethea isn't a myth, and she doesn't hold any peace in her heart. She watched as her family was murdered for the magic of their horns. She'd give anything to avenge their deaths. She just hasn't figured out how yet.

When she meets another, Cerus, everything changes.

Together, they harness more power than Amethea ever dreamed. But is it enough to take down the Lords of Shifters?

FALL, 2012

And now, Amethea has a few words before I let you go...

I am Amethea--the last of the unicorns. The only living daughter of Grane and Epona. My family was slaughtered before my eyes for their magic. Xifan saved me and raised me in the dark underworld of Hornbrood where I learned to use some of my magic in ways to inflict harm on those who must suffer for their sins. I made a vow to avenge my family, and I will keep my promise. No matter the cost. Even if it kills me.

A Shiny New

I'm pounding away on Spider Wars and it's turning out to be quite different than Loramendi's Story. It's dark and creepy, just what you'd expect a story with spider shifters to be, but not in a heebie jeebie sort of way. In a totally stellar, rock your socks off way.

For now, I'll tease you with a blurb and a fantastic cover--you're going to love this cover. I do. ♥ Robin Ludwig has wooed me again with her cover art skills.

Jess' life has never been ordinary. After all, life on the road with an immortal family of gypsies is hardly predictable. Living in the small town of White Salmon, Washington has brought some normality to her life. But when her cheating, unofficial boyfriend, Nicu, gets involved with a group of arachno-shifters, life gets a little sticky. Will she be able to save him from the web he's spun? More importantly, how much is she willing to risk at a chance at love?

Writing Update

I've been reading a lot lately. Not a lot according to some of my friends who read eight books a week, but a lot for me. Normally I read two to three books a month. This past month I've read seven books. And yes, my writing has paid for it. I was hoping that this second Lords of Shifters book would become more fluid if I spent a little time away from writing, but it's still stubborn and thick to think through.

I'm struggling most with the point of view. I really want to tell Jess' story, but to do that, I have to leave Lora where she ended up in Loramendi's Story. I'm not really sure that's what fans will like. Fans fell in love with Lora, and most series continue on with the same hero/heroine, but Lords of Shifters isn't like most series. Of course I'd get back to Lora eventually, probably in book three.

To motivate me to get through this madness and to keep my readers up to date on my progress, I posted this cool new Word Meter on the side bar thanks to Sarra Cannon's Free Word Meter. Come back often and see how slow I write! haha ;)

Now Available and Heebie-Jeebies

To be extra sure that Loramendi's Story shows up on August 7th, I decided to hit the publish button today. Sometimes it can take a couple days and sometimes, like today, a few hours to become available. Barnes and Noble is still thinking about it while Amazon is already complete. Here's the link!

If you have a Kindle, you can now purchase Loramendi's Story for only .99 cents! Since this is the first book in the series (Lords of Shifters), I'm keeping the price low. It hurts, but I'm hoping it will help gain new readers.

I've been doing a lot of research into spiders lately for my next novel. They totally creep me out, but the research must be done. So, after spending a few hours reading and looking at pictures of the eight legged creatures, I crashed in the recliner for some much needed time with my Kindle.

My big pooch, Cookie, fell asleep at my feet.

Out of nowhere, a ginormous hairy spider scurried across the floor, straight toward Cookie. I pushed her head so she would stand, but she was out and didn't budge. The spider bolted straight for her cute pooch nose. I pulled her heavy face up to save her from the spider attack. She finally woke and helped me out by standing.

The spider stopped.

I maneuvered my Kindle toward the spider to capture it and then I brushed it off into the front yard.

Afterward, I danced around to make sure it wasn't crawling on me even though I clearly saw it scurry off in the other direction.

Whew.

I pretty much saved my dog's life. I'm a hero.

Have a great night. I hope you enjoy Loramendi's Story!

Loramendi's Story - A Lords of Shifters Novel

It's time to tell you about my next novel. LORAMENDI'S STORY is the first book in the Lords of Shifters novels. It will be out this August. I'll announce some awesome opportunities on how peeps can get their paws on an e-Arc soon! For now, just check it out and enjoy.

Lora wants nothing more than to be the wind behind sexy windsurfer Chance's sails. But fulfilling that wish just became...complicated. After seventeen years of normal life, someone wants Lora and her family dead. And the attempted massacre isn't nearly as strange as the reason behind it

Available on an eReader near you in August, 2011.
